Mohiuddin Medical College (MIMC) in Mirpur was finally inaugurated earlier this year by his
eminence Shaikh Alaudin Siddiqui Sahib. The inauguration ceremony was attended by many senior political and academic figures that paid homage and expressed their gratitude to Shaikh Alaudin Siddiqui Sahib and Mohiuddin Trust for this impressive feat which stood to benefit the whole of Kashmir as well as Pakistan.
MIMC is the first medical college in either the public or the private sector of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. It sits on an area totalling 3,500 square feet. A purpose-built hospital is under construction to complement the (teaching) college but until this is made operational the government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) has passed a bill granting MIMC affiliation to utilise the services of the District Headquarters Hospital in central Mirpur for the foreseeable future.
The MIMC campus has separate facilities for male and female students and can cater for up to a 1000 full-time students. Living quarters for staff are also provided within the boundaries of the campus in addition to a restaurant, a leisure centre and various shops.
MIMC will offer various subjects ranging from MBBS and BSc. degree courses in Medicine and Pharmacy right through to courses in Nursing and Herbalism. An application for MIMC to start degree courses in Dentistry is under assessment by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC).
As the college develops it is envisaged research capabilities at MIMC will also grow to soon making it a regional pioneer for medical research.
